Nowadays, many students are going for part-time jobs. Some do not mind skipping classes or not attending school in order to work part-time during their schooling days.
Working part-time is becoming a fashion for the teenagers in these days. They desire money because they need extra cash to cover their daily expenditures. Many are happy to have their own money to spend. They do not have to stretch out their hands to ask their parents for money.
Some students are working part-time because they have to help out with their family's financial needs as their parents are not bringing in enough money to cope with the family's expenses. To help around, many work after school and especially during the holidays to earn extra money.
(Recently a case happened because of that person working part-time. It is sad to know that the robbers being so cruel as to kill that person.)
There are cases of students working because they are not getting enough pocket money to buy luxurious items for themselves. They would like to possess the latest hand phone, MP3, laptop, digital camera, etc... They do not want to drop behind or lose out to their friends who can afford to won such items.
Sad to say, others work part-time as they feel stuffy staying at home. They feel depress and lonely as there is no one to talk to. Their parents are busy working and they need company. Thus, they go out to work to find friends and be in some body's company and not alone.
It is not surprising to hear that there are students who work just for fun. They want to have a kick out of working life and also the exposure. They want to gain some working experience and hope to learn something while working part-time.
Well, no matter what kind of jobs they are working, the most important thing is the kind of jobs they do, does not break the laws and is legal. (Teenagers tend to be gullible and naive, so they are often being used by some 'black-hearted' company. So to all of you out there, beware when looking for jobs!).

Taking part-time jobs enables a teenager to gain more exposure and experience in the business world and working society.
For that reasons, 'college students' (not 'high-school students') with much time to spare should be ENCOURAGED to work part-time.
If you watched The Apprentice 3 which highlights the points about Book Smarts and Street Smarts, the two competing teams showed their distinct qualities that a highly successful person needs to have - a combination of both.
Having said that, if a student/teenager pursues part-time jobs with materialism in mind at the expense of their studies, it should be DISCOURAGED.
Students should put education ABOVE all else.
It is true that teenagers who works part-time are able to alleviate the burden of their family, get to know more people/friends and learn more about the outside world, but putting materialism ahead of education, they do not know what they're missing, BIG TIME.
They need to be educated that the more they pursue 'small money', the will continue to chase after 'small money' for the rest of their life. Education changes one's fate:
